The 'iM282A-L LR_Base Plus' is a compact and low-cost radio module that operates in the unlicensed 2.45 GHz band and combines a powerful Cortex-M3 controller with the new ultra long range transceiver SX1280 of Semtech Corporation. It has been specifically designed for battery driven applications and is able to achieve without any additional amplifiers a LoS range of more than 10 km.
The WiMOD LR Base Plus firmware provides LoRa®-modem functionalities which allows to implement proprietary and cost sensitive radio networks with typical topologies like peer-to-peer and star configurations. The embedded radio protocol stack offers unacknowledged and acknowledged radio packet exchange with optional encryption and automatic power saving for battery driven applications.
Besides the modem services the firmware includes some example features which are typical for the application area of this LoRa® radio modules: a tiny sensor application which demonstrates a periodic sensor data transmission and a remote control with digital input/ouput via radio link.
Finally the supporting software provides two analizing tools, which are helpful in developing radio based applications:
- Radio Link Test application which allows to analyze the radio link quality for different LoRa® radio settings by means of the typical metrics Packet RSSI, Packet SNR and Packet Error Rate
- Radio Packet Sniffer which forwards received radio packets
These embedded development tools and all the other features can be used in combination with WiMOD LR Studio which offers an easy to use configuration, logging capabilities and data visualisation.

The Starter Kit is a plug & play solution to explore the features and capabilities of the Long Range Radio (LoRa®) module 'iM282A-L LR_Base Plus'. The kit contains two demo boards and two radio modules soldered on specific adapter boards. The modules are pre-programmed with the LR_Base Plus firmware, software for the protocol option 'GlobalLink24' is available for download. The demo board is the basic platform of the Starter Kit and provides several functional units. These units include power supply, USB interface, and several input and output elements, such as push buttons, DIP switches, potentiometer, and LEDs. In addition all pads of the attached radio module can be accessed via pin connectors. Connection between the radio module and the demo board is established via a module-specific adapter board. The radio module is soldered on the adapter board which is attached to the demo board through pin connectors. The adapter board also has a SMA jack connected to the RF output of the radio module, which can be used to connect an external antenna (or RF measuring and test equipment). The LoRa® technology can be easily evaluated with our Starter Kit SK-iM282A.
